Embankment Surface Water Drainage

We recently completed this surface water drainage at the base of a railway embankment following embankment re-stabilisation work. There was a mix of 900mm and 1050mm diameter pipe runs, six pre cast concrete ring chambers of varying depths, a bespoke pre-cast concrete chamber and three pre-cast concrete headwalls.

Access point renovations

Overview:

Due to a number of railway access points becoming dilapidated and non-compliant with current standards we assisted our client to scope these locations to the required changes. The client then completed a design and we constructed the new access points.

Old Rochester Station TOC Berthing Conversion

Overview:

As part of the East Kent Re-Signalling Project Phase 2 a new station was built at Rochester. The old one was partially demolished with all the platform structures and furniture removed. The station remained unused whilst a design was completed to convert the station into a TOC Berthing station.

We carried out all the ground work and building work to convert the station and sub contracted the electrical and CCTV requirements. The project involved:

Rochester Station Gabion Basket Wall

Overview:

At the new Rochester station a concrete retaining wall was constructed adjacent to the car park, however it did not run the whole length and stopped where the embankment shallowed slightly. A gabion basket wall return was required. Due to proximity to the track and possible excavation within the track support zone the work was constructed during a weekend 27-hour possession whilst track monitoring was in place. We planned and constructed the gabion basket over two 12 hour back to back shifts.

Radlett Road Walkway

Overview:

A walkway was required from Radlett Road access going in one direction to allow access to points heating equipment and signals and in the other direction a greasing unit and signal gantries. The total length of the walking route was 415m, with 300m being on level ground however there was a redundant section of track to remove and various other debris. The 115m in the other direction was on the top of an embankment and required ballast board retainment and nonconductive GRP hand rails. The embankment working was risk assessed and it was identified that harness and fall arrest was required whilst working on the embankment in case of any slips or falls.

Thameslink Bermondsey Dive Under

Overview:

As part of the Thameslink project a new section of track was created called Bermondsey Dive Under. We installed all associated concrete troughing and walkways including hand rails where needed and signal foundations.

Rabbit Netting in Lewes

Overview:

At a remote rural location an embankment containing an HV route was being undermined by burrowing rabbit. The area, approx 3,330sqm was cleared of vegetation, rabbits, the embankment regraded, rabbit netting laid over the embankment, new elevated GRC trough route to contain the HV cable and the cable slewed into the new route.

Cannon Street troughing

Overview:

Due to existing trough routes being at maximum capacity and limited space our team worked with the client’s design engineer to install and construct bespoke trough bridges and brackets over and around existing trough routes. There was restricted access due to the location, making material deliveries and construction that bit harder.

Artillery Bridge, London Bridge

Overview:

The existing cable route over the bridge was full to capacity, so a new route was designed to fix to the steel of the bridge. The GRP route was installed during possession and isolation.

Carpenders Park Walking route

Overview:

A new walking route was required to gain access to newly installed gantries. There was currently no authorised walking route to these structures. The route was surveyed, vegetation cleared and nearly 1Km of walkway was installed to Network Rail standards. The walking route had to negotiate elevation changes so steps and hand rails were installed as part of the walking route.

The Hoe Access Point

Overview:

An unauthorised access point was being used by maintenance teams which was not compliant. A design to Network Rail standards was produced, approved and constructed to allow safe access for all maintenance teams.
